Dr. Sani Shinkafi, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has vehemently criticized the recent intrusion into the residences of former Governor Bello Mohammed Matawelle in Zamfara State.

The Police and Department of State Security Services (DSS) carried out the invasion, prompting Shinkafi to denounce their actions as outrageous, despicable, and barbaric.

The incident took place shortly after Matawelle peacefully handed over power to Governor Dauda Lawal from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Shinkafi expressed his concern over the violation of Matawelle’s fundamental human rights and the disregard for the rule of law by the security forces.

In a statement released on Friday, Shinkafi called upon the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of DSS to immediately order their personnel to vacate the occupied premises.

He stressed that if the former governor is suspected of any wrongdoing, due process should be followed rather than resorting to such politically motivated actions.

Highlighting the importance of upholding Nigeria’s democracy, Shinkafi, who is also a member of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, called for an end to this “show of shame.”

He firmly stated that Nigeria is not a banana republic and that such acts should not be tolerated.

It is inconceivable that a combined team of the Police and DSS would invade the homes of the immediate past governor of Zamfara State a few days after he peacefully handed over power to Governor Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party,” Shinkafi said.

He further added, “Nigeria is governed by the rule of law, not might. All advocates for democracy should condemn this appalling action taken by the nation’s law enforcement agents, who took matters into their own hands by invading Matawelle’s homes in Gusau and Maradun, Zamfara State. They cordoned off roads leading to the houses, blatantly violating his fundamental human rights as guaranteed by the 1999 constitution as amended. This is unjust, unfair, and unacceptable.”

Shinkafi’s call for the immediate withdrawal of security personnel from the occupied premises reflects his strong condemnation of the politically motivated harassment and intimidation of the former governor.

He urges a halt to this “show of shame” in order to safeguard Nigeria’s hard-earned democracy.
