Concerns are mounting in Osun State following the circulation of a voice note purportedly from a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), allegedly detailing a plan to bomb the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The audio, which has gone viral on social media, claims that some PDP members believe that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may win the 2026 governorship election, leading them to consider violent actions to prevent this outcome.

The APC in Osun State is calling for an immediate investigation by the Inspector General of Police, emphasizing that the voice note mentions a plot to kill numerous officials at the INEC office, including the AIG, REC, and up to 200 others. APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, referenced an earlier plan during the 2018 elections, which was allegedly thwarted by Senator Ademola Adeleke and Dr. Deji Adeleke, insisting that the current situation necessitates a thorough investigation.

In response, Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the allegations as “irresponsible and defamatory.” His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, announced that the governor’s legal team would pursue a N5 billion lawsuit against Olabisi unless a retraction is issued. The governor firmly denied any involvement in planning or plotting attacks on INEC or its officials, characterizing the claims as a baseless smear intended to sow discord.

This developing situation highlights the tensions surrounding the upcoming elections in Osun State, raising urgent questions about political stability and security measures in the region.
