Musa Faskari, the Chairman of Faskari Local Government Area in Katsina State, has confirmed a tragic incident during Ramadan prayers at Mairua community, where two worshippers were killed by assailants.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service monitored by Vanguard, Faskari disclosed that the attack occurred during Tarawih prayers on Saturday night. The assailants stormed the home of Alhaji Lado Mairua during the prayers and demanded his compliance, but he resisted, leading to his fatal shooting. Additionally, a neighbor who arrived at the scene on a motorcycle witnessed the incident and was also killed.
Furthermore, Faskari confirmed that the attack resulted in the abduction of Alhaji Lado Mairua’s wife and his 15-year-old daughter, marking the second time his wife has been kidnapped by bandits.
Expressing concern over the escalating violence, Faskari highlighted the frequency of attacks in the region, citing another incident in Malalai village earlier that day where two individuals were killed and two women abducted. Additionally, a soldier was killed in Ruwan Godiya on the same day.
Faskari appealed to the Federal Government to address the security challenges, emphasizing the need for a concerted effort to confront and neutralize the bandits. He stressed the urgency of military intervention to dismantle the bandits’ hideouts and curb their activities to restore peace and security in the region.
