WARNING: Releasing Unclassified Content Can Land You in Jail!

In a shocking move, the National Films and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB) has issued a stern warning to all creators: failure to obtain proper classification for your skits, films, or music videos can lead to a fine of N500,000 or imprisonment for three years!

The NFVCB is cracking down on violators of the National Film and Video Censors Board Act Cap N40, Laws of the Federation, 2004. Specifically, Sections 2(1) and 2(2) mandate that all content must be certified by the Board before release.

The head of the Asher Entertainment Weekly Programme at NNH Communications, Mr. Joseph Emenike, has advised content creators not to risk their freedom and finances. While urging the government not to stifle creativity, he further advised video content creators to ensure their work complies with necessary regulations. He recommended obtaining necessary classification from the NFVCB before sharing content.

Mr. Emenike also requested the National Assembly to review this legislation and bring it in line with present-day realities and global best practices. He noted that the creative industry has grown and transformed significantly in the last two decades since the law was enacted.
