The Delta State Traditional Rulers Council (DSTRC) has called on both federal and state governments to commence immediate reconstruction of Okuama community, devastated after the tragic killing of 17 soldiers in March.
In a communique from their Asaba meeting, Chairman Major-General Felix Mujakpuero (Rtd), the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, emphasized the need for reconstruction to relieve the suffering of displaced residents and facilitate their return. The royal fathers also praised the Ukoko Irie Urhobo leadership for supporting the community with food items, helping to alleviate the hardships faced by internally displaced persons.
Congratulating newly elected local government chairmen, the DSTRC urged them to prioritize people-oriented projects to fulfill their electoral promises. The monarchs also lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for ongoing developmental projects, particularly the Ibusa/Okpanam bypass aimed at reducing traffic congestion.
Additionally, EFCC Zonal Director Effa Okim appealed to the monarchs for support in combating moral decay among youths, encouraging a return to traditional values to fight corruption and criminal activities.
The meeting saw attendance from traditional rulers across Delta State’s senatorial districts, including the Pere of Akugbene Mien, the Obi of Ubulu Unor, and the immediate past Chairman of the Council, the Obi of Owa.
