Johnathan Buma, a 15-year FBI veteran who publicly criticized Donald Trump’s handling of classified information, was arrested on March 17 in New York for allegedly leaking confidential files.

Buma is accused of printing around 130 classified files from the FBI’s internal network while working on a memoir about his career. The draft, which he shared over email, allegedly included sensitive details about a foreign country’s weapons of mass destruction program.

The investigation into Buma began in 2023 when authorities raided his home. He was arrested while attempting to board an international flight and appeared in court for a preliminary hearing before being released.

Public reaction to Buma’s arrest has been divided. Some view it as political retaliation for speaking out against Trump, while others believe the charges are justified. Buma has not yet entered a plea.
