Floods have caused significant destruction in Ondo town, Ondo State, following a heavy downpour on Friday that lasted several hours. The flood submerged houses and vehicles, displacing many residents and damaging properties worth millions of naira. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

Affected areas include Itanla, Oka, Odo Ijomu, Bethlehem, and the Akure-Ondo Expressway, where streets were overtaken by the floodwaters.

In response, the state government has initiated evacuation efforts and deployed a rapid response team to mitigate further damage. Ondo State’s Environment Commissioner, Oyeniyi Oseni, announced that the government has dispatched Amphibious Excavators to dredge critical erosion-prone areas in a bid to prevent future flooding.

Oseni attributed the flooding to unlawful developments on waterways, particularly in an estate at Fagun and along the Ife road area. He assured the public that the ministry would collaborate with relevant authorities to address these developments and prevent future occurrences.
