Former Governor of Zamfara State and senator-elect, Abdul’Aziz Yari, has advised the All Progressives Congress to consider performance, not ethnicity or religion when appointing key officials for the 10th National Assembly.
Yari is one of the new senators-elect seeking the Senate Presidency and argues that the North, which contributed the most votes to ensure APC victory in the recent presidential elections, should be given the opportunity to produce the next Senate helmsman.
Yari cautioned against using religion as a factor in appointments, as this would lead to dissatisfaction among northern Nigerians who did the real voting.
Northern stakeholders are set to convene to discuss the choice of Senate Chief Whip Orji Kalu and Senator Sani Musa as preferred candidates for Senate President and Deputy Senate President of the 10th National Assembly, respectively.
