The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, will today bestow the ceremonial beaded crown upon High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the former governor of Oyo State and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland. This significant event, scheduled to take place at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan, marks Ladoja’s induction into the esteemed circle of beaded-crown-wearing monarchs in the city.

High Chief Ladoja recently announced his acceptance of the crown during a live radio program in Ibadan, a decision that has since turned his Bodija residence into a center of celebration. Among the notable visitors congratulating Ladoja are Governor Seyi Makinde, the Asiwaju of Ibadanland Chief Bode Amao, and other distinguished personalities such as Chief Bayo Oyero and Chief Wole Akinwande.

Today’s ceremony also marks the first Olubadan-in-Council meeting under the new Olubadan, who ascended the throne on July 12. A reliable source within the palace confirmed that a formal invitation, signed by the Olubadan, was delivered to Ladoja over the weekend.

The presentation of the beaded crown is viewed as a pivotal moment in the ongoing fulfillment of state laws governing the Olubadan declaration and the hierarchy of ascendancy within Ibadan’s chieftaincy system. The Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland is expected to bless the crown before it is formally presented to Ladoja.

This event underscores the deep traditions and customs that continue to shape the leadership and cultural identity of Ibadan, as High Chief Ladoja steps into this revered role.
