Tension grips the Lagos State House of Assembly as heavily armed security personnel cordon off the complex ahead of an emergency plenary session on Monday, March 3, 2025. The session is expected to formalize the resignation of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, paving the way for a new leadership in line with the state’s zoning arrangement.

Reports indicate that security presence, which has been heightened in recent weeks, intensified early Monday morning, with personnel from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the state police force conducting thorough checks on all visitors and staff before granting entry.

Sources suggest that Meranda’s resignation follows a political resolution brokered by President Bola Tinubu and APC leaders to manage the fallout of Mudashiru Obasa’s removal as Speaker. High-level interventions reportedly secured Obasa’s resignation rather than outright removal, ensuring a “soft landing” for the embattled politician.

The situation remains fluid, with further developments expected.
