In response to improved security conditions, the governments of Jigawa and Yobe have eased curfews initially imposed due to disturbances during nationwide protests.
Jigawa’s Information Commissioner, Sagir Musa, announced that curfews in Babura, Birnin Kudu, Dutse, Gumel, Hadejia, Kazaure, Kiyawa, and Roni have been relaxed from 6:00 pm to 5:00 am starting August 4, 2024. Additionally, curfews in 19 other LGAs, where no violence was reported, have been lifted entirely. Governor Umar Namadi praised the residents for their cooperation and patience, as well as the security forces for their professionalism.
In Yobe, Governor Mai Mala Buni has also relaxed the curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru from noon to 5 pm, allowing for more daily activities. The governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (ret.), urged residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security personnel.
Both states’ leaders emphasized their commitment to maintaining peace and stability.
