Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State visited Majia town in Taura Local Government Area on Wednesday, following a devastating tanker explosion that claimed the lives of 95 people and left over 50 others injured. The governor, accompanied by top officials, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the departed souls.

Governor Namadi, who left Dutse at 10:00 a.m., promised that the state government would cover the medical expenses of the injured and pledged further support to those affected by the tragedy.

The explosion occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, when a petrol tanker overturned in Majia village. Local residents had gathered to scoop fuel from the leaking tanker before it ignited, resulting in the deadly fire.

Jigawa Police Command confirmed the incident, with DSP Lawan Shishu Adam stating that the tanker, traveling from Port Harcourt to Yobe State, lost control and spilled fuel into the village’s gutters and drains. Adam warned the public to stay clear of such dangerous situations in the future.

The injured are currently receiving medical treatment, while authorities continue to manage the aftermath of the disaster.
