Hamisu Bala, popularly known as Wadume, was sentenced to seven years in prison without the option of a fine by Justice Binta Nyako.

The trial judge found Wadume guilty of illegally dealing in prohibited firearms and escaping from prison custody.

The Attorney-Office General’s and the Minister of Justice had previously brought the criminal prosecution before Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Nyako convicted Wadume on counts two and ten of the 13-count charge brought against him and six others after a three-year trial.

Meanwhile, on July 22, 2022, Justice Nyako handed down judgment on the following defendants in the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/30/2020: Aliyu Dadje (a police inspector), Auwalu Bala (aka omo razor), Uba Bala (aka Uba Delu), Bashir Wazlri (aka baba runs), Zubairu Abdullahi (aka Basho), and Rayyanu Abdul.

The details of Court papers revealed on Sunday, August 14, showed that the prosecution team’s case was upheld.

Inspector Dadje was sentenced to three years in prison for falsifying police records in order to conceal a crime.

Dadje was the Station Officer at the Ibi Divisional Police Headquarters in Taraba State’s Ibi Local Government Area at the time of the crime.

According to court records, he tampered with entries made by the leader of the IGP, IRT team, Inspector Felix Adolije, in August, 2019, by tearing off the entry page to cover up for Captain Tijani Ahmed Balarabe and his team.

Uba Bala, also known as Uba Deli, and Zubairu Abdullahi, alias Basho, were sentenced to seven years each for illegal possession and unlawful trading in prohibited weapons.

Mr Abdul, a Kano resident, was sentenced to three years in prison for harboring Wadume after he escaped from police custody in Ibi.

Auwal Bala, alias Omo Razor, and Bashir Waziri, alias Baba Runs, who were listed as the third and fifth defendants, were discharged and acquitted for lack of evidence.
