The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has exonerated former Abia State Attorney General, Chief Uche Ihediwa, of any misconduct and reinstated him as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Ihediwa, who served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu from 2015 to 2023, was suspended from using the SAN title on July 1, 2024, pending an investigation into allegations against him.

The suspension followed a petition by former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, who accused Ihediwa of making damaging remarks about judicial appointments in Abia State during the 2023 International Bar Association conference in Paris.

However, after reviewing the case, the LPPC, at its 163rd General Meeting on February 6, 2025, found no wrongdoing on Ihediwa’s part and officially reinstated his SAN rank.

LPPC Secretary, Sarki Bello, confirmed the decision in a statement, emphasizing that after “consideration of all material facts,” the committee resolved to restore Ihediwa’s rank with immediate effect.

With this decision, Ihediwa’s status as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria is fully reinstated, closing a chapter of professional uncertainty for the former attorney general.
