Armed bandits struck during a Maulud celebration late on Sunday night, leaving a devastating toll of at least 20 lives lost and numerous individuals abducted in Kusa, Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to sources, the incident unfolded around 11:05 pm on Sunday, when the assailants descended upon the Maulud festivities, plunging the village into chaos as the sound of gunshots reverberated through the air.
A member of the local vigilante group, who spoke to journalists, described the harrowing scene. He revealed that the attackers had surrounded the Maulud venue and opened fire on the participants, causing numerous injuries.
“The aftermath of the attack left 20 lifeless bodies in the community. Several individuals were also forcefully taken captive by the assailants, and their whereabouts remain unknown,” the source said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the attack, acknowledging that a group of bandits had indeed targeted the area during the Maulud procession. ASP Sadiq revealed that the assailants had inflicted injuries on 18 individuals, who were promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Tragically, two of the injured individuals succumbed to their injuries. He assured the public that further investigations are underway to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
