The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 12 individuals suspected of vandalizing public infrastructure during ongoing protests against hunger in Abuja.

Command Spokesman CSC Samuel Idoko revealed in a statement that three suspects were caught attempting to vandalize the Moshood Abiola Stadium after scaling its fence. The others fled upon seeing the officers.

In Jabi, four suspects were apprehended for attempting to vandalize street lights. Additionally, a scavenger, known locally as “baban-bola,” was arrested atop the newly commissioned Wuye Bridge in the Mabushi area at 3:30 am, unable to explain his suspicious activities at such an hour.

FCT Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu warned that miscreants and vandals targeting critical national assets would face severe legal consequences. He emphasized the detrimental impact of vandalism on socio-economic progress and urged residents to report any suspicious activities.

Dr. Odumosu called for dialogue as a means to address grievances, cautioning that destroying public property harms the public more than it helps. He assured residents of their safety and encouraged them to continue their daily activities without fear.
