Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has taken a significant step in empowering young Nigerians by launching a Young Farmers Support Programme in Bauchi State, designed to engage 100 schoolchildren between the ages of 10 and 17. The initiative, under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Initiative, aims to cultivate a new generation of farmers by providing both inspiration and practical tools for agricultural success.
The First Lady, who was represented by Aisha Bala, the coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative in Bauchi State, emphasized that agriculture goes beyond farming—it represents growth, sustainability, and the creation of opportunities for a brighter future.
At the launch, the young beneficiaries, hailing from both primary and secondary schools, were encouraged to approach this unique opportunity with passion and commitment. “Your enthusiasm in nurturing the next generation of farmers is invaluable,” said Oluremi Tinubu, urging them to embrace agriculture as a pathway to personal development and national progress.
Each of the young participants received essential farming implements, including a kilogram of hybrid maize, a hoe, and a tea tap for nurturing their plants. In addition, they were provided with a starter pack and financial support of N100,000 to help kickstart their farming ventures.
The programme aims to instill a strong sense of responsibility in the youth, equipping them with the tools to make a meaningful impact on Nigeria’s agricultural sector. The First Lady’s initiative is seen as a crucial part of the ongoing efforts to ensure Nigeria’s agricultural industry remains resilient and prosperous, while fostering self-reliance among young Nigerians.
