Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reimposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the communities of Ifon and Ilobu following a new outbreak of crisis over disputed lands. The fresh violence, which occurred late Thursday in Ilobu, left one person feared dead as gunmen shot residents and burned houses.
The new curfew, effective from 6 pm to 6 am starting Friday, March 21, 2025, replaces the earlier schedule of 10 pm to 4 am. In a statement released by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, it was emphasized that the measure aims to restore peace after the renewed conflict. A joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps will maintain 24-hour surveillance to ensure strict enforcement.
Governor Adeleke has also called for a stakeholders’ meeting to be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025. The meeting will include prominent community leaders, such as the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, and the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, among others, to explore further resolutions to the conflict. The governor warned that anyone found aiding the unrest would face severe consequences.
