A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councilorship candidate in Pari Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Mr. Raymond Timothy, and his brother, James Timothy, were tragically killed by terrorists on Sunday.
The brothers were attacked while returning from a political campaign in Kizachi village, according to Barnabas Chawai, a PDP chieftain in the council. “They were shot and killed on their motorcycle,” he said, suggesting the attack could be politically motivated.
Chawai urged security forces to bring the culprits to justice and called for preventive measures as the October 19 local government elections approach. He added that Raymond Timothy left behind three children, with his wife expecting a fourth.
John Wanneh, Secretary to the Village Head of Kizachi, confirmed the victims had been with him shortly before the attack, and they parted ways just minutes before hearing gunshots. Wanneh highlighted the poor road infrastructure in the area, which hinders security efforts, saying, “We are appealing to the government to help construct a bridge and road for easy access in emergencies.”
Senator Sunday Katung, representing Southern Kaduna Senatorial District, condemned the killings in a statement, expressing his outrage. “This barbarity is unacceptable in a civilised society like ours,” Katung said, urging the Kaduna State Government to address the worsening security situation in Kauru.
At the time of this report, the Kaduna State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement.
