The Delta State Police Command has neutralized three suspected kidnappers and armed robbers during an operation in Agbarho Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area. The command also recovered four AK-47 rifles from the suspects.
SP Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the command, revealed that the operation was conducted on Thursday by officers from the Ebrumede Police Division, led by CSP Iwok Ndifereke. The suspects were allegedly involved in the murder of two mobile policemen and a driver during a failed kidnap attempt on September 2 at Okoloba Junction in Uvwie Local Government Area.
Following the failed kidnap attempt of the wife of a Delta State House of Assembly member, the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, had ordered heightened security measures in Warri and surrounding areas. In response, CSP Ndifereke’s team set up a strategic operation at the DSC roundabout, which led to a confrontation with the suspects. The hoodlums abandoned their vehicle and fled with gunshot wounds, leaving behind three AK-47 rifles.
On October 3, acting on intelligence, the police raided the suspects’ hideout in Agbarho. A gun battle ensued, resulting in the neutralization of three suspects, while others escaped. A fourth AK-47 rifle was recovered during the operation.
The police are continuing their manhunt for the remaining members of the gang.
