The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that a major fault on its Omotoso-Ikeja West 330-kV transmission line has significantly reduced the bulk electricity supply to Lagos. According to TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the transmission line snapped between towers 420 and 422 on March 9, resulting in a drop of approximately 350 megawatts (MW) in power delivery.
The outage has impacted both Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC), leading to substantial load shedding across the affected areas.
TCN has deployed engineers and transported necessary materials to repair the damaged sections, with repairs expected to be completed within three days. Once fixed, full bulk power supply is anticipated to be restored via the affected route.
Mbah apologized for the inconvenience caused to the government, the electricity distribution companies, and consumers in Lagos.
