Three teenage girls have drowned in a pond in Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The victims, identified as Fatima Sule, 12, Nasiya Sale, 12, and Huwaila Sa’adu, 13, were from Tulla village.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 11 a.m. when the girls went to cut grass for their livestock near the pond. According to ASC Badaruddeen Tijuana, Spokesperson for the NSCDC, the agency received a distress call at 11:10 a.m. and quickly mobilized personnel for a rescue operation.

After approximately 30 minutes of searching, the bodies were recovered and transported to a local health center, where they were pronounced dead. The girls were buried according to Islamic rites after their remains were returned to their families.

NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Muhammad Danjuma, extended his condolences to the families and urged parents to closely supervise their children, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and potential flooding.
