The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has confirmed it is waiting for further directives from the University College Hospital (UCH) management after successfully restoring power to the hospital’s clinical services section. The reconnection, facilitated by the intervention of Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, met the promised 48-hour deadline.

In a statement on Thursday, IBEDC emphasized its readiness to work with UCH management to fully restore electricity to other parts of the facility. “IBEDC remains committed to ensuring a stable power supply and will collaborate closely with UCH for additional reconnections,” the company stated.

The restoration follows months of blackout that triggered protests from UCH students earlier in the week. Addressing the demonstrators, Minister Adelabu and UCH Chief Medical Director Jesse Otegbayo assured that the power crisis had been resolved with IBEDC and that electricity would return within two days.

However, the University of Ibadan Students Union Government (SUG) has threatened further protests, accusing authorities of selective reconnection that excludes student accommodations, including Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Hall.

“Our demand is simple: full restoration of electricity to the entire UCH, particularly the hostels where our members reside,” the SUG declared in a statement. “Failure to restore power within the stipulated timeline will result in mass student action against the federal government, IBEDC, and UCH.”

As tensions simmer, all eyes remain on IBEDC and UCH leadership to see if the restoration process will be completed—or if students will once again take to the streets.
